Planning your visit
Egypt’s position as one of the world’s top tourist destinations was guaranteed around 5,000 years ago, when a succession of ruling Pharaohs built ever-increasingly impressive cities and structures the like of which weren’t seen again until as recently as the 20th century. Today, the list of breathtaking ancient sites that are still standing today reads like a sightseer’s dream.
The Giza Plateau, which if you’re a first-time visitor you’ll find situated surprisingly close to the outskirts of Egypt’s bustling capital city Cairo, hosts a plethora of awesome sights that could occupy you for a fortnight. The Great Pyramid, of course, is the focal point here, though no less impressive are the two slightly smaller pyramids that stand by its side, and their juxtaposition in the desert sand next to a busy modern city is almost as surreal as it is familiar. Standing guard in front of the pyramids is the east-facing Sphinx, which silently gazes out over an amazing ancient temple complex. This is one of those sites that demands reverence and gets it unquestioningly from its visitors - you simply can’t come anywhere near Cairo and then not visit this beautiful ancient site.
Although Egypt is 95% desert, the fertile lands that straddle the River Nile are home to more ancient cities, and more breathtaking monuments. Luxor, The Valley Of The Kings, Thebes, Karnak, Aswan, the list goes on, and all are accessible if you’re looking for a Nile Cruise holiday - it’s a fantastic way to see Egypt, watching the fertile riverside landscapes and the desert beyond them slide silently past.
Cheap Holidays To Egypt
But there’s so much more to Egypt holidays than ancient history. Recent developments have seen the emergence of the Red Sea Riviera; a series of modern resorts with modern accommodation that take advantage of the hot weather, clear-blue waters, and amazing coral reefs that lie just offshore for intrepid snorkelers and scuba enthusiasts to explore - diving holidays in Egypt are regarded as among the best in the world. There’s a great range of facilities & nightlife in resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna and Naama Bay, and you really can choose to laze your days away on the Red Sea beaches, try the many watersports on offer, or explore the desert hinterland whether by jeep or camel.
As the Red Sea Riviera becomes more of a well-established tourist region, increasingly people are finding that there are more and more cheap holidays to Egypt, and in fact many more holiday bargains are to be had if you’re looking for a late deal or last minute type offer, particularly with a leading trusted tour operator such as Thomas Cook who, as destination experts can provide customers with man, many holiday options.
Whether looking for a great sightseeing-packed holiday or one of the greatest beach destinations in the world, or pretty much any mix of the two, Egypt can surely offer the perfect holiday experience.
