Paphos is a fast growing resort, however it is very proud of its archaeological heritage, which has qualified the resort as an UNESCO World heritage site. Paphos is split into 2 areas - Upper Paphos known locally as Ktima Paphos and lower Paphos known as Kato Paphos. Kato Paphos is the main tourist area focusing around the harbour lined with open-air fish restaurants and home to most of the historic sites.
Location:
Located on the southwest of the island, Paphos was once the capital of Cyprus under the ancient Greeks and Romans.
Beaches:
Coral Bay has a large beach and is one of the few in that area which is soft under foot. The municipality beach in Kato Paphos has a small sandy beach with a few rocks when entering into the water.
Sightseeing:
As a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, the town is an open museum. Visit the 'Tombs of the Kings' - or the Paphos Mosaics.
Leisure:
For the Golf enthusiasts Paphos is the perfect place to play a round or two. The 3 main golf courses are Tsada, which is set amongst picturesque orchards and vineyards next to the monastery, Aphrodite Hills, which offers a championship golf course with stunning views of the Mediterranean within a nature conservation area, and Secret Valley, which was designed with championship potential in mind and is surrounded by rock formations.
Transport:
The local bus service in Paphos is excellent and a cheap way of getting around and run every 15 - 20 minutes from 0700 - 2300 during the summer months. Local taxis are also available, which can be booked through your hotel reception, or simply flag one down. It is always advisable to confirm a price before getting in.
